Students are often resistant to learning poetry, citing it as "hard to understand." I teach AP Literature, and poetry is an essential genre for the course, so students need to be engaged with the genre. This project aims to make poetry more accessible to students by having them represent and demonstrate - through drawing, color, and tactile activities - their understanding of poems. It will even ask them to write and visualize their own personal poems, giving them ownership over the genre through their own writing. Whiteboards and game buzzers will work for test prep as well as alternative forms of assessment that require more active and tactile engagement with course content.
