Pep band music is different from concert band music. Generally, it is popular music with a different style. It is shorter and is used to generate enthusiasm for school sports such as basketball. The introduction of pep band music is a new musical experience for students. By having the tools to form a pep band, students will learn new rhythms, notes, and performance etiquette for a variety of different activities. Marching drums with carriers are essential for the volume and "feel" of the music in pep band, as well as, the portability of the drums. These same tools can double for a parade band when student skill levels are appropriate. In addition, students will gain a sense of pride and belonging through school involvement. This sense of belonging is particularly motivating to middle school students and will encourage them to continue their music education.
