Having a diverse selection of books available for students will help make all students feel welcome. We have very few books with girls as leaders and role models; our non-fiction section could really use books that can be read by beginning readers for our ESL population and we definitely need more books on Social Emotional Development and welcoming people of all abilities. To have books that teach about character building and welcoming of differences will help students learn to stand up for each other and empower them to make decisions that will create a positive school climate. All students come to the library every week to check out books and get reading materials in their hands, and having new books will give the gift of reading to thousands of students for years to come!
