I am moving from a 6th grade music class to a 1st grade core classroom this year, and I am collecting items that spark creativity and emotional coping skills for early education. I love creating a classroom environment that fosters positive social and emotional well- beings of my students. I want them to feel safe and comfortable to be completely themself. Many items on my list are mindful books, STEM toys, and curriculum based games to promote student engagement. I've personally seen the positive effects of "The Little Spot of Emotions" books with my own children! It allows children to feel in control of their emotions and gives them to language to better communicate how they feel and why they feel that way. The book set would be a great addition to the SEL library in my classroom. Games including the Zingo sight words and Alphabet Letters kit will encourage student engagement. My classroom has a focus on creating mindful little humans and kind friends. Thank you for taking time to read my story!
