Groups of students come into my classroom every day and sit in desks and hard chairs and I, the teacher, stand in front of them and walk around helping, beside them. I want to change that! I want my classroom to have the community feel, where we all come together at one table and work together. This adjustable U table, or bean table as some call it, would be my community zone. There we'd all be on one level and be able to collaborate with each other to help students learn best. With these materials, my classroom dynamic would change for the better. Adding a deeper sense of community and allowing students to comfortably work together. A flexible seating classroom is one in which traditional seating charts are replaced with seating arrangements that allow the students to sit where they choose. One of its principal objectives is to reduce the number/duration of sedentary periods of time, which research has identified as a danger to health. I currently have two chairs that allow students to bounce and fidget their body while they learn. They all love it when it's their turn to sit on the chairs. These new wobble chairs will allow all my students to sit in a flexible seating option if they choose. Literacy games and materials are essential to my classroom. Many students have learning disabilities that affect their ability to read. The new Lakeshore phonics materials will be used at our new U table and throughout our classroom to bring excitement to reading work.
