My students come from all over the state of Florida. They have been convicted of a crime and are currently enrolled in the school while they are being treated for substance abuse issues. Often times these young men, between the ages of 14 to 18, have not been in school for sometimes up to two years. As much as we try to inspire them to know their multiplication and integers, they are so far below grade level, they often struggle as we move forward because they are missing the basics.
