TIME for Kids magazines will allow my students to explore current events that are occurring throughout the school year. These magazines will expand our nonfiction text selection, which will expose students to real-life reading. In other words, as students get older and become productive members of society, their reading will go beyond reading a book or reading a passage. They will need to be able to read and comprehend newspaper and magazine articles to inform themselves of what is happening in the world.
TIME for Kids magazines will help prepare my students for their futures.
These magazines will go beyond enriching students' reading experiences. They will expose students to new vocabulary words. In turn, that will strengthen their comprehension skills. Also, they will enhance students' discussion skills. They will have the opportunity to discuss these current events with their peers. In turn, that will strengthen their social skills.
I plan to use the magazines in a variety of ways. Students will have the opportunity to explore and engage with the magazines during independent reading time in our classroom library. I will also use the magazines during our whole-class reading lesson to teach nonfiction reading skills, as well as, in small group reading to strengthen students' nonfiction reading skills.
Time for Kids magazines provide an endless amount of opportunities for my students!
