As a first-year teacher, I am eager to provide a learning space that is mindful of my students' various needs. Many of the sensory items will be used in our "Calm Corner," a space where my students can take a break and reset. A comfortable and/or stimulating seat may be all it takes to help with self-regulation. With flexible seating that meets their sensory needs and an engaging classroom library that ignites their interests, students will feel ownership over their individual learning process. The ability to have choice is an essential part of having a healthy and positive relationship with learning. I believe that all students can love reading if they just find the right stories that interest them. Similarly, I think that having a physical learning space that is conducive to individual needs is essential for our classroom of unique minds and bodies to function optimally.
