I am entering into the classroom with no materials to kickstart my journey as a first year teacher. This opportunity allows me to be innovative about researching resources to help bring materials into my classroom. There's a lot of pressure going into the classroom this year. It will be many students' first time back on campus. Also, it will be a redo to regain their ownership of learning before Covid-19. This type of anxiety and stress is predicted to happen. I have students who come from low socioeconomic families who will face adversity into securing basic school materials. This can ultimately lead to my students not feeling secure for a successful school year because they will not feel motivated nor prepared as other classmates. These basic school supplies are the tools to confidence for my students to feel a part of the classroom. My students will not feel INADEQUATE about lacking any materials to start this year as a successful school year. As their life science teacher, I am committed to bringing school supplies that will make projects fun for creativity, colorful, and purposeful. A project I am looking forward to with my students are "How Does Color Affect Memory?" Color is used in our daily lives in order to send signals like red for danger or stop. Colors can evoke certain emotions, but can colors enhance memorization? For the students and I to complete this project, we will need index cards, markers in several different colors, and a black marker. This project will allow the students to look at science from perspective yet transformative lenses.
