Every year I have between 90- 120 students walk through my door, many who tell me that they do not like or enjoy my subject (I quickly set out to change that). Because I teach English Language Arts and reading, these students are with me for nearly two hours a day. My classroom becomes a sort of second home to these students and a safe place for them to turn to throughout the day. Over the last few years I have begun to implement various flexible options for my students, and it has made a world of difference. Students become responsible for choosing the location and seating option that works best for what they are learning that day. They are also much more open to reading when they have a comfortable place to focus!
