These materials help the students build on and expand their reading levels. Right now we have a few books but not enough to last more than a few silent reading days. I chose books that will excite students and build their curiosity of the world through books (which ties in with one of our first lessons). I chose chapter books for the students so they can dive deep into the material, have peer discussions, and find new series they might enjoy if they have not found any. My students come from a low economic background and deserve the best possible education and exposure to text. I want my students to learn, grow, and thrive this school year. I believe giving them books allows them to escape into a fiction world where they can learn and have fun!
