A large classroom carpet allows for personal space and comfortable seating for students, as we meet for our daily morning meeting and for instruction throughout the day. Students will have the opportunity to use this space as flexible seating during independent work times in our classroom. The rug I have selected is large enough to accommodate a full class and will help to create a sense of community, building relationships with each other. It also provides designated spaces that will assist students in appropriate spacing. Last year classroom rugs and many additional furniture items were removed to provide more space for social distancing. The colorful, welcoming elements of the classroom were stripped away, making the room feel bare and sterile. This year we will have the opportunity to meet again, "at the carpet"...for read alouds, class meetings, guest readers, and direct instruction.
