School ends at 3:45 PM. Then, if they want to participate in any school activity at all, they have to stay after. Many of them do so and they are hungry but they must still go to tutoring, practice, mentoring etc. In some cases, they don't eat again until they come to school for breakfast. They mask it behind behavior and hoodies but they are hungry and tired many days. If we could give them a snack during the day or just before practice or tutoring or just after practice and tutoring then that would fortify them until they can get home and get their homework done. Imagine eating only at school...breakfast, lunch and then not again until breakfast the next day. Mom may work all night or not at all. You may be home alone or with people who don't care if you eat. They come to my class all of the time for food and I give what I can but it would be so helpful if there was a coffer of snack s to give out when appropriate. We are not talking about a large group of students and it is not every day. Periodically throughout the week the same 6-8 boys are hungry. I would love to pace it out and have snacks for them throughout the year without them knowing they have been obtained for them. Thank you for your consideration.
