After a year of online learning, I'm excited to bring physical books back into my students' lives! Although some of them were able to seek out books during the pandemic, many of them have only been reading on screens for the past year and a half. As an English language arts teacher and a lifelong lover of stories, I truly believe that the right book can have a major impact. This project will allow me to have a classroom library of books that will be there to help my students learn important reading and writing skills both in school and at home. I hope that these books will also become their new friends, their windows into different worlds, a means to connect with one another, and the inspiration that they need to keep moving forward in the world. I have requested two copies of most books so that students will be able to read books together for collaborative projects. Since last year was my first year as a solo classroom teacher, I did not have the opportunity to set up my own classroom (due to online teaching). I can't wait to give my students a tour of the materials and opportunities that will be available to them in our physical space!
