I am an Elementary School Counselor in a diverse Urban school with approximately 500 students. More than half receive free or reduced lunch. Many students are returning to in person learning after learning digitally at home since March 2020. As the School Counselor my focus will be to help students with their social and emotional needs. When students feel comfortable and cared for by the adults at school they will be able to focus on their learning and be successful academically. This will be the first year the school has a School Counselor. I want to create a comfortable and cozy environment. Some students may feel stressed and need a quiet place to calm down. I want my room to be that place for those students. I also would like it to be a comfortable space t meet with students either individually or in small groups. I feel if I have a nice rug and comfortable seating students will be relaxed and want to talk.
