As a teacher, I have a very comfortable chair that I purchased, but the kids can't carry a chair with them from class to class throughout the day. Even though they are young, an 8 hour day is a long time for them to be on task and focused. As a public school, consideration about student needs goes to safety and well-being first, not comfort. I would like for science class to be a place where they could take a break that they don't even know they are taking. Having a seat in a chair you feel is comfortable or fun can re-energize you and change your attitude about how the day is going. Getting a little bit of rest without realizing it helps kids learn. The best way to go about that is to get a variety of seats and let them choose which one to sit in.
