These Pop-Its will help create engaging lessons that are hands-on for our students. Studies show that the more engaged students are, the more they learn. As you might know, Pop-Its are extremely popular! If you have never heard of a Pop-It, picture a silicone version of reusable bubble wrap! Students love to pop these little bubbles. Think back to when you were a kid - sometimes popping the bubble wrap was more exciting than the package it wrapped! Students will be all in when using these Pop-Its as a learning tool! I plan to use both sides of these Pop-Its: one side for math and one side for reading. For math, I can number each little bubble 1-100 and it becomes an interactive, hands-on 100 board. These are perfect for all kids, but are extra helpful when teaching our ADD, ADHD, Autistic, EC, and learners with sensory issues! I can teach so many math concepts with these, such as: counting 1-100 and skip counting by 2, 5, and 10s! Each line has 10 dots. Each line makes each group of 10 a different color. This makes counting by 10s easy. Many first grade math concepts are normally taught on a 100 board. I can teach skills such as +1, -1, +10, -10. Students can learn about even and odd numbers, adding within 100 by using the counting-on strategy, and subtracting within 100 by counting back! In reading, I plan on using the Pop-Its to practice spelling their sight words. I will start by writing one letter on each bubble. Students will pop the bubbles as they spell their sight words out loud. They will work with CVC words to teach them to blend their sounds together. Plus, Pop-Its have the added bonus of stress relief while using them!
