I will have about 60 students on caseload this school year and about ¼ of them will be new to my school. My students come with various interests, reading levels, and comprehension levels which require a diverse library of books and speech activities to promote engagement. Students are not always excited to read when books have outdated material that they cannot relate too. These books include a variety of titles that relate to understanding emotions, building confidence, celebrating diversity, realizing future possibilities, and some are just fun and silly. For instance, Dragons Love Tacos is a fun book that can be used to target Vocabulary, Articulation, Multiple Meaning Words, Synonyms, Antonyms, Grammar, WH Questions, and Sequencing - so many possibilities in just one book! With 20 new books, each of my unique students will be given more opportunities to connect with new characters and story plots that they can relate to while targeting their speech and language objectives. My goal is for my students to improve their speech and language skills while engaged in meaningful books that will also foster a love of reading.
