All students should be given different opportunities and different resources to help them gain a love for reading. While my vending machine will be supplied with books, I want to reach students who may not necessarily like reading chapter books. I want them to see reading as being fun and use magazines as a gateway to strengthen and develop a desire to read not only for school but for leisure as well. As a part of PBIS, students will receive a token to get a magazine from the book worm vending machine. Magazines will give them more options and I feel in return have them exemplify positive behavior to earn a magazine. My goal is for STAR reading and KPREP reading scores to improve. The magazines will give students a leeway to begin a love for reading and encourage more reading at home and school. Students can gain knowledge through magazines in ways such as high interest content, builds background knowledge through nonfiction, text complexity and readability, and fostering the reading habit.
