Due to school renovation and COVID 19, the speech and debate trophies and plaques have been in boxes, gathering dust for the past four years not inspiring anyone. Currently, our 70+ speech and debate trophies are being housed in a speech practice room that will be used for student coaching sessions when the trophies find a permanent home. Prior to the school renovation, the success of this team surrounded students as they walked into the speech and debate room each day; trophies lined the room, and that atmosphere of success bred success in each new class of students. Students in my English classes felt an expectation of excellence and recognized the history and esteem that they are a part of at this school when they entered the glittering ambiance of the speech and debate room. I would like to once again offer that experience to my students in 2021-22.
