I have chosen many books that I either have used before in the classroom or that come with high reviews. Moving from 4th grade down to first grade, I knew that I needed simpler read alouds that still pack a punch when read aloud. First graders are still learning about what school is and what a community of learners is. These read-aloud books will help me teach about these things in a fresh and new way. The stories will be memorable to the students, and I can go back to them many times throughout the year. For example, School's First Day of School will be something I can read the first week of school, but I can also go back to the story throughout the year and talk about friendship, anxiety, and excitement.
