Kindergarten sets the foundation for the educational success of students. The majority of my kids arrive with limited experiences. They have no fine motor development at all. Most kids spend their time on technology, like a tablet/iPad or cell phone. We do constant activities in Kindergarten to build those fine motor skills. We work on holding writing tools correctly in order to use them. Each item selected serves a specific purpose and will help me meet their diverse needs. The tracing materials are great for building and practicing these skills. Once students realize their drawing/writing expresses their thinking, a whole new world opens. We will use dry erase boards daily for reading/writing and math. As you can imagine, it’s important each student has their own board. Writing can be hard and it’s crucial I show them that writing is fun. During the first few days of school I give them a blob of white shaving cream on their desk and show them how we rub it around and use our pointer finger to “write”. Writing isn’t just pencil to paper. Providing various types of paper and materials to write with, gets them excited. Children go through developmental stages of writing. It starts out as scribbles or finger painting letter like formations and by the end of our school year they are writing a simple story. By donating to my class project, you are helping provide valuable hands on experiences for my kindergarten students. You are helping to grow their little brains, fine motor skills, self confidence, excitement for learning and positive attitude about writing. You are partnering with me to build a strong foundation for their educational future. You will truly make a difference in my classroom!
