From the air they breathe to how comfortable they feel bringing posole or sopes or flautas to school, if funded, my project will help transform the gloomy and weathered portable classroom into an inviting home. Students already spend more than 4 hours desk-bound every day yet we expect them to sit comfortably in classroom silence, confined by hueless walls, lacking basic amenities? Might I remind you that they have been learning from home this last year! Little things like a bin of colored pencils and notebooks, or a bocina to spice up the class ambiente will make a bigger impact than one might imagine. For example, a speaker makes it easier to learn and teach music history, since audio is so crucial, instead of playing it off my laptop speakers hoping to immerse my students in the content. This project will make for a safer and more engaging learning environment because al fin y al cabo, it is what my students need most as they transition into in-person instruction.
