Students retain knowledge longer when they can "see" the concepts. I like to use fun hands-on activities to bring math concepts alive, and help my students gain a greater understanding of abstract concepts. Skittles can be used for multiple lesson types - color frequency and relative frequency, disparity among bag counts, comparing small sample sizes to larger sample sizes, how companies deal with variability of product samples, and so much more! We make lots and lots of graphs using Post-It graphs and colored dots. This helps the students visualize the difference in samples.
