This school year my school is gearing up for engineering. This will be our first year as a total magnet academy with a curriculum focused in the area of engineering. The items I selected for my 3rd graders are geared toward building a foundation for engineering, providing them with hands on engineering activities, and supporting their need to learn and explore using critical thinking skills for solving real world problems. The items in my cart were selected for this new journey in engineering so that it will be an engaging learning experience for my students. I also chose the wobble stools as a means of providing my students with flexible seating options. Research has shown that flexible seating enhances learning. My students will have e stool additional seating options "to make more effective learning choices." Because of the physical layout of my classroom and the number of students projected to be in my classroom, students' seating arrangement will be in groups. The engineering design process also calls for students to work collaborately to create things to solve problems. However, our nation is not out of the woods with Covid 19. With the new variant looming over the horizon, students will need protective classroom gear so that they can remain socially distance and continue to experience working collaborately in groups. This is the purpose of the clear privacy shields. There will also be a need for students to independently demonstrate their understanding of an engineering concept/lesson; therefore, I have chosen the privacy study carrel shields to help improve focus and discourage cheating. Besides, I've found that most students just love the privacy of having their own space that the study carrel shield provides when they are sitting in groups. The materials selected for my project will gear students up for engineering.
