I am extremely lucky to be teaching at a school that values the students. My kids are predominantly Hispanic and second language learners. They need more time to process language skills but that doesn't deter them from trying their hardest. They may not be at grade level or what the state requires to be "on level' but they are progressing and that is all I can ask. My job is to keep them engaged enough to want to come to school. Once they step into the classroom, everything in the outside world can disappear for just a little while. As easy as that seems, it's not. It takes a lot to get through to some of my students. Some of them have a lot going on in their lives but that doesn't stop me from trying. My colleagues would agree with me. We have a wonderful team of teachers that want the very best for their students.
