My students must leave 6th grade with the skills to succeed in junior high. They will transition from having one teacher in one classroom to having at least five different teachers all over the building. The world is changing every single day, and so are the lives of my students. Students in my classroom come to school each day with a can-do attitude. I want to give my students a chance to organize their belongings and have pride in their work.
Although it is great for students to leave 6th grade knowing how to divide fractions, it is even better for them to know how to contribute in today's society.
Students will learn how to enjoy having a routine and structure when it comes to their school work. This skill will transition to their careers and families. Having a rhyme and reason to things in the classroom will give my students a chance to create their own routines in life. My students will thrive when they successfully learn these executive function skills.
