Celebrating Native Culture! We will complete these three activities: Navajo sand painting is a ceremonial practice that we will honor with the colored sand. Students will look through artifacts and images of Navajo sand painting and chose to replicate one or create their own. We will honor the Wampanoag by creating Wampum belts. Exploring the significance of the belt to peace, tradition, and record keeping. The pony beads, yarn, and looms will be utilized. Finally we will build Hopi coil baskets. A basket served many uses and the tradition passed down generations. The coil rope, yarn, and needles will be used to create these.
