My students are just beginning to develop their phonics and decoding skills and they all want to be "readers." Decodable books give students practice with letters, sounds, and blending words all in the format of a book that they can read. Independence and growing reading confidence is so important for first graders. They are proud of their new skills and relish the opportunity to read to a classmate, parent, sibling, or even a stuffed animal. A decodable book at a just right reading level gives a student the opportunity to be a reader and reinforces their understanding of phonics. The decodable readers requested here will be used for classroom reading practice as well as at home reading practice. My students are working on a 100 book challenge which includes time spent reading at home and at school. This set alone includes 80 books that students can read and log toward their challenge goals.
