The majority of my kindergarten and 1st grade students did not attend preschool. They have missed out on learning and perfecting those basic "school skills" like routines, independent learning, choice, and clean up. By providing a center-based art classroom for my youngest students, I hope to give them that experience so that they can "catch up" before it is too late. My vision is to have 4 art centers for my kindergarten and 1st grade students to rotate through. Examples of art centers are play dough, LEGO bricks, texture rubbing, stencils, bracelet/necklace making, collage, paint, and free drawing. Students will each get a small group with me to focus on a specific element of art (color, shape, texture, value, etc.) We will become experts in cutting, gluing, making good choices, and cleaning up!
