Research shows that if students are not able to name their letters and their corresponding sounds by Kindergarten, then they will continue to fall behind in reading fluency and comprehension. Most of the materials I have selected focus on those early literacy skills. Teaching reading is a SCIENCE! Reading instruction must be explicit, systemic, and responsive in order for kids to be successful. The resources I have chosen will help tremendously in my small group instruction this coming school year, specifically working with Tier 3 students (those who are performing behind grade-level expectations).
