Every one of the students I will teach this year is curious about the world in which we live. What better way to discover answers than looking at the microscopic world in Science class? Small classrooms for students with multiple disabilities, don't have the equipment used in the general education classrooms. Our money is usually spent on providing students with specialized, hands-on materials to learn to read, communicate, tell time and count money, not Science tools. A microscope would allow my students to view the microscopic world in the classroom for the first time. So often, we read about the amazing scientific findings in the world, like cloning the sheep, Dolly. Our kids could become research scientists too! They could view plant and animal cells to see the parts when learning their functions. They could see pollen and learn the connection to plant reproduction. Salt and other chemical elements and compounds could be compared. There's mold, and even a funny critter called a "water bear" to be explored. I'm sure that my students will learn that the possibilities are endless.
