Kindergarten is the year to make students fall in love with books. Every day we read aloud pictures books, students have independent reading time and read to partner time, and even though we are a DL class, we only have English books. Our classroom is Dual Language, 90% Spanish and 10% English, so it is really important for my students' educational development to have Spanish books. They need to experience being read to in their native language. Spanish books will be a great resource addition to our classroom. These books will help bloom their passion for reading in Spanish that will help them in their academic future. On Fridays my students are allowed to take home 2 books, to be read with their families during the weekend, unfortunately, most of my books are only English. I feel so sorry to hear my students and parents say they weren't able to read the book during the weekend since most of them don't speak/read English. These books will be added to our classroom library. At this time we only have English books. Getting my students a new Spanish Library, full of picture books they can take home, would be inspiring and would help them feel included and welcome. This library will bring families together!
