This year in 5th grade my school is dissolving its ASD unit. There will be 4 ESE students joining my classroom for total inclusion which I am very excited about for my first year teaching. This will be a great opportunity for learning before they move into 6th grade and I want to set every student up for success for that big transition. There are numerous benefits to utilizing flexible seating in classrooms and it would be a great asset to my classroom for all of my students this year. Flexible seating supports students in having a choice and feeling empowered in their learning. Further, this increases engagement, concentration, and motivation. It allows students to feel comfortable in their classroom community while learning each day. Additionally, it is useful for sensory input and helping students to stay calm and focused.
