I will be using these books at the beginning of the school year to ease students back into a traditional school environment and open up dialogue about diversity, kindness, and acceptance of others. We will be discussing the themes of the books and brainstorming ways that students can apply what they have learned through the stories. This will be a meaningful time of connection for the students, who have been in a modified schedule due to COVID for over a year. It will be a big transition for the students, and I want them to feel comfortable and welcome so they can learn.
