Without spoken language and other forms of communication, children are deprived of their right to express themselves and their needs. My classroom is all autistic preschool students, some who do not speak, some who minimally speak, and some who speak a lot. No matter where they are developmentally in spoken language, these binders will aid them in communicating in a more effective manner. These materials will be used to make PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) binders. PECS binders are used in place of and to aid spoken communication. Giving my students the opportunity to communicate early on allows them to develop a sense of independence and gives them the tools to build more interpersonal relationships. Me, my instructional assistants, and my students greatly appreciate any support that can be given!
