Students thrive in a learning environment where each day presents a new reason to get excited about walking into the classroom. When I first came across these wall mounted hideaway desks and storage units, I immediately became inspired. Sure, they're practical. They save space, allow more flow through the room, provide places to store instructional materials, and a great work area for partnering students. Seeing them through the eyes of middle schoolers, though, I also imagined how each could present a kind of mystery. What is inside each one? How might the materials stored inside drive the day's learning activity? Could they be a part of a bigger conundrum to solve? I imagine using them to reveal stations or as facets in an escape room style lesson. Take a look at these hideaway desks and imagine a classroom that is clean, organized, and open, where students make new discoveries every day!
