My students love to learn how to work on the pottery wheel. Due to this excitement, there is usually a waiting list to use it. Currently, we have one pottery wheel in our art studio classroom. Unfortunately, the pottery wheel is experiencing many mechanical issues and may be beyond repair. The company that made our current pottery wheel is no longer in business and quit making parts for the model we have in the mid-'50s (Yes, you read that right!). This pottery wheel will make the biggest difference to my art students, giving them an opportunity to learn how to throw clay which could give them the knowledge to turn a skill into a very real career choice of making and selling pottery. Without this wheel, students are not given the full ceramic experience. This gives students a real appreciation of how much skill goes into these art forms and how pursuing the arts as a career choice is a very possible route. I know having this pottery wheel will make the BIGGEST difference in my class and bring so much excitement, skill development, and project opportunities to my very deserving students. My students deserve to have this experience. By donating to this project, you will be giving our students a chance to refine and develop their clay skills. This means that we can do more than basic hand-building and students can take their clay projects to the next level. Now more than ever, we need these students to be hands-on in the classroom!
