Help me provide my students with a space to practice self care. The supplies I am requesting will all be in a small corner of the room. This space will be specifically designed to provide a calm, private area for students to work through their feelings.
Along with learning content skills, students in elementary school are learning to deal with their emotions. Our children don't come to school every day and leave their issues at the door; they bring everything in with them (the good and the bad)! My goal is to create an area where students know they can go when they feel they need to step away. Whether this be when they are in conflict with a peer, they feel anxious or overwhelmed, or they are dealing with issues in their home lives, everyone needs a break sometimes.
Specifically, I am asking for comfy seating and a rug to make the area warm and inviting. I'm also asking for items, like clay and fidget toys, that will provide an opportunity for students to self-regulate. Lastly, I've asked for a gift card from Teachers Pay Teachers so that I may purchase specific social/emotional educational resources, like posters about different zones of feeling and calming activities.
