One of my goals as a language arts teacher is to instill a love of reading. This gets harder and harder every year as various devices and media pull student attention away from reading just for the sake of reading. Books can open the world to students with limited resources -- they can inspire them, motivate them, and show them to pain and beauty of being human. While our classroom libraries often contain some of the "classics," our more reluctant readers will benefit from a selection of books that includes greater diversity.
