I believe that every student learns in their own unique way. Working at a Title One school, many of my kids are coming from impoverished homes and are used to uniform learning environments. In my classroom, I celebrate their differences and aspire to create a flexible yet organized environment to inspire and encourage creative learning experiences. The flexible seating I have chosen will help my students be able to take ownership of their learning and focus better without being stuck in an uncomfortable chair all day. Some kids need to move to learn. The drawers will help them stay organized and have consistency in the classroom, when their home lives are often disorganized and inconsistent. The doorbell will be used as a creative way to get my students attention, instead of raising my voice. And the chair is so that I will be able to work in small groups with my students, because they benefit from one-on-one instruction just as much, if not more, than whole-group instruction! As a first year teacher with many dreams of creating an effective and fun learning environment centered around my students' unique abilities, I realize I cannot financially achieve this dream alone. Help me create this beautiful classroom family where diversity is celebrated, and creativity is encouraged, so that effective learning can take place.
