Dramatic Play is a very important skill that students are able to develop in kindergarten. This center allows students to pretend play and act out things that they see at home. It allows them to practice being a parent. Dramatic play teaches many skills - self regulation, conflict resolution, it is an emotional outlet, teaches literacy and math skills. Students are able to pretend to be different careers using the career vests. They can use the play kitchen to make meals for their family and friends. They are able to take care of their babies and practice being a parent. For boys this is especially important because at home they are often not allowed to play with dolls. At school they are able to be the dad and take care of the kids in a safe setting. Students enjoy the dramatic play area and enjoy working together in this area.
