Because the subscription to Scholastic News Magazine will be both digital and print, it will offer students their most valuable way to access standards based content. Besides helping students learn about important science and social studies current events, this magazine will also help their reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition. A writing component is also part of each issue. It is highly engaging and provides opportunities for me to teach students how to access non-fiction text while they get to practice these skills on a weekly basis. Non-fiction text features are a huge part of 3rd grade learning standards. Using this resource will be an authentic use of identifying these features to aid reader comprehension and learning.
