Read alouds provide a window for students to look into the experiences of others in order to build their identity. First grade is an important year to teach children about empathy and build their identities as activists. This would not be possible without read alouds that can teach children about topics that are important. Not only this but it makes children feel seen and included. It is important to provide windows and mirrors into the experiences of different children so that everyone can feel included and seen in class. Thank you!
