My students are highly creative, diverse learners. They are gaining their skills as independent workers, and benefit strongly by having the appropriate tools to demonstrate their knowledge and learning in a myriad of different mediums. These tools will be used to engage in arts integrative content, and to explore the concepts of "making thinking visible" - whiteboards can be used to express different interpretations of literacy concepts through words, or pictures, and can be a sustainable option for practicing and cultivating many different academic and artistic ideas. 5th graders are beginning to explore the arts in a more immersive, and dynamic way that helps them to develop higher level thinking - having precision tools such as watercolor brush pens enable them to express themselves at a greater level of control as they develop their individual artistic skills. Colored pencils and markers are a tool for everyday use throughout all arts-based content and integrative core content, through allowing students tools for color-coding, or demonstrating greater detail within their work -- we do a lot of observational and scientific drawing and sketching in 5th grade! Especially with the many challenges of COVID, and keeping student and teacher safety in mind, individual materials have become a must. Individual storage options, such as book boxes, encourage students to develop strong organizational habits, which gives them greater autonomy over their learning. I hope you will consider supporting my classroom of wonderful students, and their ability to engage with artful thinking and learning at an elevated level.
