In order for students to be successful you must give them the tools to identify and process emotions. Often times, students need assistance in learning how to cope and deal with various emotions. In order to foster an environment that encourages healthy regulation of emotion it is important to give students the tools and resources to be successful. I intend on teaching social emotional learning every day and in order to do so I would like to give my students a effective calming area to implement the practices.
Creating a safe space for self regulation. The tools within this project well allow my students to practice developing healthy relationships with themselves and others. With these materials I will be able to create a calming corner, When students are overwhelmed upset or just need a break they will have a safe space in the class where they can go to self soothe. In the calming corner there are steps that they can take in order to distress and work through their problem on their own. Sensory tools have been proven to be great resources for self soothing. Allowing my students to use these various manipulatives will give them choice in their calming techniques.
