I am requesting professional development books that will support me in various areas that I wish to grow as an educator and where I see that I need to develop my own skills. One of those areas is math fact fluency. Many students struggle with numeracy and basic fact knowledge. Every class is different, but at least 30 to 40% of students struggle with numeracy. I would apply the strategies in the Math Fact Fluency book to develop a stronger math fact based curriculum. Another area I want to work on is developing stronger readers. Structured literacy is the new way of doing reading instruction. The Brainwords book I requested will further my knowledge on this subject and help me to establish sound reading practices based in science. Classroom management strategies are essential to building a great class community. With the book The First Days of School, I can use the strategies and techniques discussed to build my own management tool box. I especially want to be able to broaden and continue to strengthen the strategies I already use. Lastly, mindfulness is now more than ever a topic that as teachers we need to address. In order to meet the social emotional needs of our students, we need to meet our own first. This is where the 180 Days of Self Care and Mindfulness in the Classroom books will help. I want to grow my own mindfulness strategies, so that I can take those and implement in my own professional life, which will in turn be used to better my students lives.
This project will support me in providing meaningful techniques and strategies to better my students lives and education in all major content areas and social learning.
