Many students have never been given the opportunity to read a novel of their choice and as a result, they end up graduating high school having only read the assigned books in their district’s ELA curriculum. I want my students to have the opportunity to read books that they actually want to read. Allowing students to choose their own novels will allow them the chance to explore different authors, genres, and themes. In addition, reading a book they like will increase their desire to read and help improve their overall literacy! It’s a win-win!
