All these materials and supplies have been purposely picked to help my students learn math in a new and exciting way. What better way to learn than using items to help implant the ideas and concepts of counting, adding, subtracting, sorting, and much more. Students are more engaged in their learning when given manipulatives and gain a complete body of math knowledge, not just a discrete set of skills. Within this project, beans, pennies, apples, and cubes are some of the units, the objects being counted, that students will playfully manipulate during their Pre-Kindergarten year in my classroom. Lessons are planned from simple to complex so that, by the end of the year, students use their math words to communicate precise observations such as, “3 bananas and 2 bananas make 5 bananas.” The donations to this project will help to improve my students understanding of meaningful math concepts that will further their understanding of math in later elementary grades. The curriculum that will be implemented sets a new standard for rigor, coherence, and focus in the classroom so students gain a deeper understanding of the why behind the numbers, all while making math more enjoyable to learn and teach. Each unit also has a parent letter so parents can be involved in their child’s learning and ideas will be given to do at home. To make this project work, manipulatives are needed and that is where we need your support. We would be extremely grateful if you would consider our request!
