Imagine learning how to read, order, and compare numbers through the thousands while applying these skills to a real life task. I work as a second grade math and science teacher at Apollo Beach Elementary school. Every year I get a new group of inquisitive and sometimes reluctant seven and eight year olds, and every year I try to think of new and exciting ways to make math meaningful to them. I do not work at a Title I school, and therefore do not receive any additional funding for supplies or tools. Although we have a strong and generous PTA, the funding for all worthwhile endeavors, such as this one, cannot be in the budget.
